Hmmm…it’s me finally & I’m not sure what to say February 22, 2009

Am I in a funk? Maybe. A blog funk? Uh, Duh. Am I a busy little bee to two little baby bees? For sure, but I love every minute of it. I think about you often, things I’d like to share with you – funny things, serious things, everyday things, things on my heart, oh and recipes too!  And there’s really no particular reason why I don’t other than…hmmm, I’m not sure.

You know that pictures are a problem for me, I take too many and want to share them all with you.  I’m overwhelmed with what I’d like to do with them.  I admit I’ve made time every day for stupid Facebook though, it’s like my own little personal People magazine I get to open up & read.  Silly I know.  But interesting.  And God is at work with Facebook, trust me.  Maybe I’ll tell you that story one day.

I’m humbled that you’re here – you being this ambiguous little audience I have in my head.  I know most of you who check on us from time to time here.  I won’t do a cheesy “roll call.”  I wonder how many of you are even left though, considering it’s been a good two months really.  I mean I hardly recognize my dashboard on here now! (that’s blog talk). And some of you don’t even know that I know you’re here, but I do.  I have this precious little friend Susie, I hope she’s not offended I call her that (the “little” not “friend”), I bet she’s about five-feet-tall’ish.  But her spunk & her spirit are way taller.  And she’s quite a lady.  Every time I see her she puts this beautiful feather in my hat with her compliments of The Thomas Report.  Really.  Every time.  I swear she thinks I hung the moon.  And it thrills me.  Flatters me.  So I really wanna get back in the game for you folks, at least for my one true fan anyway! (Thanks for the box of cookies btw, Sus!)

So back to the funk.  the blog.  the pictures.  I have all these folders on my desktop I so wanted to share with you last year – my girls trips, our beach vacation, Halloween & the pumpkin patch, etc.  And I have cool new circus-with-Grammy, Harper-spent-the-night, adorable everyday-romps pics, & who knows what’s even in the camera right now!  And you KNOW I like to do things in order, it’s a sickness.  This is like my little scrapbook I get to at least feel like I’m up to date in.  But I can’t keep up with myself.  I still have pics to file away for me and to send to others.  It’s just this massive hairy complex to-do list when I get in my iPhoto, let alone the printing or scrapbooking or blogging.  Whugh!  Overwhelms me writing it!  I suppose that’s okay because my time is well spent investing in some other things that really really matter (not talkin’ Facebook here).  The two little bees I mean.  My mentor mom said once that there would be plenty of time for “all of that” later.  So I’m gonna try not to get all befuddled here & just jump back in somewhere.  Old stuff, new stuff, I know you don’t care!  Let me go find you something….here ya go!  My two precious little baby bees….  And hope you hear from me soon!

My talented little sister-in-law, whom you’re all always complimenting her work, has the coolest raffle for their adoption fund.  It’s a two night stay in a Gatlinburg cabin the weekend after Valentine’s Day.  How great would that be?  Twenty five bucks is all it could potentially cost for a weekend away with your hubby or even family!  Or another couple, there’s two King suites!  So get a girlfriend and divy up how many tickets you want to buy (if you buy two you get a third free).  How easy is that?  And if you don’t win, the money has been given to a great cause!

GO HERE to her site to see all the details and get your tickets!

Noon Jan. 31st is the drawing so go now!  Now!  Go!

Well many of y’all know what we’ve been dealing with recently.  It’s been a long couple of weeks of Jack being sick and a particularly rough couple of days around here.  Long story short – Jack had a double ear infection and was put on Amoxicillin, the second time he’s had this medicine.  On day #8 at the beginning of this week he spiked a fever of 102.6 and I got him to the dr. Monday evening.  Not sure it was his ears or a new virus coming on, on-call dr. changed his antibiotic since the ears didn’t look as good as they should at that point.  The next morning when Jack awoke, he was covered in red bumps.  Covered.  I got him in again some 12 hours after our last visit.  At that point, our pediatrician thought it was a new virus coming on and pulled him off the antibiotics to let his body rest and start working to fight this new thing. Two days go by and he’s obviously much much worse.  I kept in contact with pediatricians office but nurses assured me the rash would change in looks, everything I had described to them was appropriate. Wednesday night was rough.  For the first time he had a very difficult night sleeping and was up about 5 times crying, inconsolable at points.  Me too.  Obviously we took him right back yesterday morning and it seemed apparent immediately that it was in fact a penicillin allergy.  See for yourself….quite impressive huh.

Day 1 – when dr. said it looked like a virus coming on

Day 2 – bumps went from small mosquito-bite looking to spread out & welpy looking

Day 3 – basically all the red bumps welped from one to another – very little flesh color was on his face or legs, all red.  eyes were puffy and hands & feet were swollen.

Day 3  AFTER oral steroid he was prescribed – already showing signs of improvement – he’s looking like our boy again. Bumps are much less red, actually legs looked bruised allover. Now we have to fight the sleeplessness the steroid causes.

Well I promised you every detail didn’t I? Sorry to have kept you waiting…let me just say, WORTH EVERY DIME! This show was absolutely eeeevveeerrryyyytttthhhhiiinnnggg we wanted it to be. Do you understand what I’m saying to you? It was sooooooo much fun!!! I hope you love this post and feel like you were there, many of you told me how much you wished you could be, so for you….I’ll take you now. And if you wanna make fun…zip it!

Here’s the deal. Brea and I grew up together, and we totally went through this boy-band phase together with our friends. We had the posters, MANY of them on our walls (I think I had like 80’something – you remember them, from Teen Beat?), we had the shirts, the pins, the pillows, you name it we probably had it. We were in love. We knew all the words to all the songs. And yes, we knew the dances. “Oh oh uh oh oh!” You know what dance I’m talkin’ about! All my friends had a different New Kid whom they were in love. “Mine” was Jon, Brea’s was Danny, someone had Joey, I can’t remember. And Jordan. And did anyone have Donnie? Man that was hard fourteen-year-old love!

So we were late. I was almost sick about it. The taxi could not go fast enough! We were both a nervous wreck. The boys could’ve cared less. Shew! There were two openers-we didn’t miss a thing. So we attempted to stand in drinks & t-shirt lines then realized, ah! We have husbands to do that for us! The people-watching there was insane. There were girls all decked out in their best 80’s do’s – side pony tails, tight rolls, neon shirts. I even saw, remember the metallic purple Oakley pullovers? Yup, two guys all eighties’d up with slick hair and sunglasses. (More men than I would have imagined were there, even men WITH their women!) Then there were the NKOTB-die-hards decked out in their shirts & pins. And then there were those girls who had their “girls” all hanging out and hussied up for the night too. Good stuff.

Brea and I before the concert – totally normal right?

Of course Brea (aka, “Mouth”) talks up and makes friends with the girls next to us. We switched emails by the end of the night cause we could tell they were getting way better pictures than I was. Brea – follow up on that will ya? Anywho, the anticipation was hysterical. When the lights went out, the place went wild. Brea kept saying, “Oh there they are!” And I was whining with anxiety, “Where! I don’t see ‘em!” THEN……it started.

OOOOOOOOOH! MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH! I couldn’t believe it was actually happening before my eyes. This was gonna be great!

I kid you not, I was running in place with excitement. My feet were going a mile a minute and I was practically gasping for air over my laughter. My smile was so big, I had tears in my eyes. Do you see J’s face in the background? You’re laughing right now aren’t you? I know you are!

Bless their bones. I know they don’t look it – but trust me, they were entertained! While this was “not their thing” obviously, Chris the music guru finally admitted the “show” was great. And the pyro was incredible.

I just want to say that the expression captured here on my face is not at all indicative of my mood for the night. I only sat down for a few minutes and during most of the show you could find a smile on my face. I just wanted to make sure that any photographic evidence of me actually attending this concert would let people conclude that I was disinterested and unhappy. I actually enjoyed the spectacle that is 18,000 “thirtysomething” women screaming like 12-year old girls and ripping their clothes off. The honest truth is that it was money well spent and I was tickled that the girls had such a good time.

Danny breakdancing. Yeah. He did. Here’s Brea, she’d “died and gone to New Kid heaven.” When they surprised us by coming out in the middle of the crowd, of course it went nuts. Girlfriend here, did some dirty dancing on that piano I tell ya! Everyone was up in their seats and the ushers finally quit trying to get us down. During “Girlfriend” I admit I was completely green with envy of the skinny hussies onstage dancing around the boys. But Donnie was over the top I must say. Dude dropped his pants to shake it and dropped a g.d. while riling up the Chicago crowd, seriously dude you had us at hello, no need for that.

By the end of the show, they seemed like they were having a really fun time up there together. They came out for two encores and it appeared they were genuinely touched by the crowd. They were laughing and pointing at the signs in the audience.

To my sweet Topher, THANK YOU! I had a blast!

Now to make sure you really feel like you were there…hope you enjoy!

Seriously….I am while watching this! (Although I’m a little underwhelmed with Rach’s interview, not a fan really). Imagine I’m sitting on my couch, laptop on the legs, my speakers are maybe going out so my volume isn’t too high. I’m one of those who has to SEE EVERYTHING and HEAR EVERY WORD. So I’ve got my machine pulled up to my face practically squinting cause it’s blurry ya know, that close, & my ear is turned in like my Granny turns her good ear to listen. Really, it only gets more ridiculous from here, I promise. I’ve been in the car twice now listening to their Greatest Hits album, you know to “study up” and I’ve found myself laughing out loud in the car all by myself….thinking of Brea and I going absolutely nuts when we see them. I can’t even imagine how ridiculously fun this concert is going to be. Goodness, what am I going to wear???????????????? Should I get a new shirt off their website, there’s some cute ones? Or go vintage tee from sweet Mel’s adolescence? The concert is in a couple weeks. Pray for no migraine for Brea! LOATHE the migraines! And I’ve already given fair warnings to both hubby’s – “no grumps!” “Make fun all you want but no grumps or scalp your tickets now…” BTW babe, THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! And the rest of you….well you’ll be hearing from me very soon with the scoop!

Edit: some two hours later – who knew there were so many NKOTB appearances all on You Tube? Oops, kitchen is still a mess. Thought this was worth a share…
